Holy Friday – ԱՒԱԳ ՈՒՐԲԱԹ

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

In all Armenian Apostolic Churches, the crucifixion, burial, and eclipse of Christ are performed on Good Friday. Holy Friday is the most solemn and sad day in the Christian calendar. This day commemorates the Lord's arrest, suffering, crucifixion, and death. Good Friday commemorates Jesus' descent from the cross and burial. The day of Christ's crucifixion is a day of sadness for all Christians, although it is a joy for the souls, because by the sufferings ofChrist, our souls were freed from hell, but physically it is mourning and sorrow. The Crucifixion Service, usually held at midday, recalls the suffering, execution, and death of our Lord, memorialized amid readings from the Psalms. In the evening, a tomb is placed in the chancel of the church for the Entombment or Burial Service. As the faithful leave the Church they approach the tomb, kiss the Gospel book, and take a flower in remembrance.
